The design of the Al Bayt Stadium was inspired by bayt al sha’ar – traditional tents used by the nomadic people in the Gulf region. Its traditional tent exterior envelopes the ultra-modern football stadium minimising the amount of energy needed to keep the venue cool. The addition of a retractable roof and artificial cooling systems will ensure that the fans stay comfortable throughout the competition.
The sustainable design of the Al Bayt Stadium extends to the surrounding areas, where parks and greenery form an invaluable outdoor space for the visitors and locals to enjoy during and after the Qatar World Cup.
The traditional and cultural design references do not stop at the exterior of the Al Bayt Stadium. The inside of this magnificent venue is decorated in vibrant, traditional sadu patterns, which will ensure that the visitors get a taste of the regional arts and culture.
