BRAZIL World Cup TEAM squad

When people think of the World Cup, Brazil is the team that typically comes to mind. The famous yellow shirts. The legendary players. And of course, the team that has won the tournament a record five times. However, having disappointed slightly since 2002, they will be looking to regain that winning mentality that has typified their rich history in Qatar.

The 2022 Brazil squad head to the 2022 World Cup having navigated rather comfortably through the usually tricky South American group. Scoring an impressive 40 goals in just 17 games, and only conceding 5 in the process, they remained undefeated and look in fine form as the Finals approach.

The only potential blip came during their home match against rivals Argentina. The game was suspended after just five minutes due to a breach of covid protocols by three Argentinian players. The rescheduled game is due to take place on 22nd September, although both teams have already qualified.

BRAZIL football team coach

The Brazil national team head coach is Tite, or Adenor Leonardo Bacchi to give his full name. Although a relatively unknown figure in Europe, he has managed extensively on the Brazilian domestic scene since 1990, rising to prominence at Corinthians.

In two spells at the club from 2010, he won the Brasileiro Série A twice as well as the Copa Libertadores and Club World Championship. This brought him to the attention of the national side, where he has been since 2016.

The disappointment of a quarter-final exit at the 2018 World Cup was quickly extinguished by winning the Copa América a year later. Along with the remarkable qualifying campaign for Qatar, Tito looks set to lead Brazil to a strong showing in what will be his last involvement with the national side.

BRAZIL football team captain

Unlike most teams, Brazil don’t have a designated and consistent selection as their captain. The honour has been shared between senior members of the squad since star striker Neymar relinquished the armband in 2019.

Dani Alves was made captain in their final World Cup qualification game, with the honour passed to Thiago Silva in the previous match vs Chile. Rewind further when Brazil played Ecuador in January and Casemiro was given the honour. When these players weren’t fit, Marquinhos of PSG was selected in the big game against Argentina.

Tito certainly does like to share the captaincy around, but with so many experienced senior players to call upon, it doesn’t seem to affect the dynamic of the team. It remains to be seen who will be given the nod when Brazil face Serbia in their first 2022 World Cup game on 24th November.

Who plays as striker for Brazil?

The Brazil squad includes a whole host of exciting attacking players to choose from, but it seems manager Tito seems to favour Neymar, Vinicius Junior and Richarlison as his front three. There’s also Gabriel Jesus, Raphinha and Roberto Firminho knocking on the door for selection.

Who has won the World Cup the most?

Brazil have won the most World Cup titles with five – 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. They were also runners up on two occasions (1950 and 1998), and have reached at least the quarter-finals a further eight times.

Has David Luiz retired?

Unfortunately for all neutral football fans, livewire David Luiz has not been selected for the national side since 2017 and won’t be going to Qatar. The defender is still playing however, turning out for Flamengo back in his home country.
