QATAR WORLD CUP 2022
With Qatar World Cup 2022 set to take place at the end of the year, the host country Qatar has unveiled eight playing venues for the tournament. The venue line-up features Qatar’s iconic Khalifa International Stadium, as well as seven brand new, futuristic stadiums purposely built for Qatar World Cup 2022.
WORLD CUP 2022 VENUES
While the Khalifa International Stadium was initially opened in 1976 and has been ingrained into the local culture over the years, the seven other stadiums, including the Lusail and Al Bayt, were built for this iconic sporting event and unveiled between 2019 and the end of 2021.
All together, the eight playing venues make up a total capacity of 380,000 seats and will be hosting an estimated 1,5 million spectators over 28 days. After the tournament is over, most of the venue capacity will be halved, and the remaining seating and stadium structures will be donated to building various sporting facilities around the world.
Qatar World Cup 2022 will be hosted in a total of three cities, and all of the stadiums are located within a 55 kilometre (35 mile) radius from Doha, making it easy for fans to travel between the venues as the tournament takes place.
WORLD CUP 2022 VENUE SCHEDULE
Qatar World Cup 2022 will kick off on November 21st at the Al Baytstadium in Al Khor with a match featuring the host country.
Each of the Qatar World Cup stadiums will host six rounds of group matches and a single game of Round of 16. Two of the quarter finals will be held at Al Thumama and Education City stadiums. The other two quarter finals will take place at Lusail and Albayt stadiums, which will also be hosting the semi-finals.
The final match on December 18th will be played at Lusail Stadium, the ultimate star venue of Qatar World Cup 2022, hosting a total of ten matches, while other stadiums will host seven to nine matches each.
LUSAIL STADIUM
The Lusail Iconic Stadium, also known as Lusail Stadium, is the flagship venue for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
AL BAYT STADIUM
Al Bayt Stadium is a 60,000-seat sporting venue located in the northern city of Al Khor, Qatar.
AL JANOUB STADIUM
The Al Janoub Stadium, also known as Al Wakrah Stadium, opened in mid 2019 and will serve as one of the eight game venues for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
AL RAYYAN STADIUM
The Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium is located in Al Rayyan, one of Qatar’s most historic cities, and is home to the hugely popular football team, Al Rayyan Sports Club.
KHALIFA INTL STADIUM
The Khalifa International Stadium is an iconic sports venue in Qatar, which was initially built for the 1976 Gulf Cup, and has been listed as one of the eight Qatar World Cup 2022 playing venues.
EDUCATION CITY STADIUM
The Education City Stadium, also known as Qatar Foundations Stadium is one of the 8 stadiums dedicated to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

ABOUD STADIUM
Stadium 974, previously known as Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, is one of the 6 new stadiums being built for the World Cup.
