The Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium is located in Al Rayyan, one of Qatar’s most historic cities, and is home to the hugely popular football team, Al Rayyan Sports Club. During the 2022 Qatar World Cup this 40,000-seat venue will accommodate five first round group matches and one round of 16 match.
The design of
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium
The venue opened in late 2020, replacing the old Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium. Its extraordinary glowing facade acts as a landmark for those arriving or leaving Al Rayyan city. Designed by UK architecture studio Pattern Design, the silhouette of the stadium celebrates aspects of local culture, islamic architecture, and the surrounding desert landscape, including dune shaped hospitality areas.
The compact seating structure of the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium allows for an electric atmosphere and a unique feeling of being extra close to the action happening on the pitch.
The Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium was built using environmentally friendly building materials and practices. 80% of building materials were reused and recycled, including some that came from the old Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium structures. A combination of energy and water efficiency systems, as well as a brand new metro connection leading to the stadium, allow for further reduction in the venue’s carbon footprint.

How to get to
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium
The stadium is located approximately 20 kilometers from central Doha and can be easily reached by taking the Green metro line from the Al Bidda station in Doha to the Al Riffa station in Al Rayyan. The trip takes around 25 minutes, and passes the Education City stadium on the way.
The Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium is a part of a new development on the outskirts of Doha, which includes the Mall of Qatar, home to world-class shopping, outstanding dining and unique entertainment establishments, where fans will be able to pass time before the matches.

While there will be around 40,000 seats ready for the Qatar World Cup matches, after the tournament is over, the capacity will be almost halved, leaving the venue at a total of 21,000 permanent seats.
