Known as National Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium is one of the stadiums that will host 2022 FIFA World Cup matches in Qatar. It’s a multi-purpose stadium located in the capital of Doha, and seats 45,416 people.
It is named after the country’s former Emir, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. The stadium opened back in 1976 and was renovated in 2005 to double the capacity. It was one of the stadiums that was already existing and just converted for the World Cup, and it was the first one to be completed.
Eight matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup are set to be played at Khalifa International Stadium, including one Round of 16 match and the third-place playoff.
It starts in the group stage with England vs. Iran (Group B) on November 21, followed by Germany vs. Japan (Group E) on November 23, Netherlands vs. Ecuador (Group A) on November 25, Croatia vs. Canada (Group F) on November 27, Ecuador vs. Senegal (Group A) on November 29, and Japan vs. Spain (Group E) on December 1.
Khalifa International Stadium will also host a Round of 16 match between the winners of Group and the runners-up of Group B on December 3, as well as the third place playoff on December 17.
