Al Janoub Stadium is located in Al-Wakrah, and was once known as Al-Wakrah Stadium. It’s a retractable roof stadium that opened in 2019 and started hosting football matches for the Qatar Stars League.
The stadium will have capacity for 40,000 people. The design of the stadium was inspired by the sails of Dhow boats, which have been used for years by pearl divers in the region.
After the FIFA World Cup is over, Al Janoub Stadium will be reduced in capacity down to 20,000, and it will be used for matches in the Qatar Stars League.
Al Janoub Stadium will host seven matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, including one Round of 16 matchup.
It will start with France vs. Australia (Group D) on November 22, followed by Switzerland vs. Cameroon (Group G) on November 24, Tunisia vs. Australia (Group D) on November 26, Cameroon vs. Serbia (Group G) on November 28, Australia vs. Denmark (Group D) on November 30, and Ghana vs. Uruguay (Group H) on December 2.
After the Group Stage, Al Janoub Stadium will host a Round of 16 match between the winners of Group E and the runners-up of Group F on December 5.
