Stadium 974 was formerly known as the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium. It got its name because it was made from 974 recycled shipping containers. It is actually a temporary venue, and will be the first such venue in World Cup history. It has a capacity of 40,000.
The stadium is located on a waterfront site, situated on an artificial promontory. The usage of the 974 shipping containers is an homage to the industrial history of the region, as well as the international dialing code for Qatar, which is +974.
Stadium 974 will host seven matches for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, including one Round of 16 match.
It starts in the group stage with Mexico vs. Poland (Group C) on November 22, followed by Portugal vs. Ghana (Group H) on November 24, France vs. Denmark (Group D) on November 26, Brazil vs. Switzerland (Group G) on November 28, Poland vs. Argentina (Group C) on November 30, and Serbia vs. Switzerland (Group G) on December 2.
Then, it will host a Round of 16 match between the winners of Group G and the runners-up of Group H on December 5.
