LUSAIL STADIUM

The design of
Lusail Stadium

According to the design committee and the British architecture firm, Foster + Partners, the stadium’s design was inspired by the interplay of light and shadow that characterises the typical ‘fanar’ lantern.

The shape itself is reminiscent of bowls, vessels, and art pieces that have been used in the Middle East for centuries. The stadium stands upon an almost circular base, and will be surrounded by a moat.

From the car park, visitors will need to cross one of six connecting bridges to enter the stadium. The roof itself is fully retractable and capable of covering the stadium completely.

To aid sustainability, the surrounding buildings, facilities, and car park are all covered by solar collectors that are designed to provide power to the stadium while it’s in use.

How to get to
the Lusail Stadium

Getting to the stadium itself should be relatively easy, thanks to a new metro line and direct road connections between Lusail City and the capital city of Doha, which is just 20km away to the South.

Lusail Stadium after
the Qatar World Cup

After the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup, the Lusail Iconic Stadium will be repurposed into a 20,000 seat stadium. The recovered space will be transformed into a community space for the city’s future inhabitants, and will include shops, cafes, athletic and educational facilities, and a health clinic.

The city itself is also currently being constructed. Once complete, the ultra-modern metropolis will be able to host 450,000 residents and include facilities such as man-made islands, marinas, luxury leisure facilities, and a golf course community.
