Stadium 974’s immensely unique design makes it one of the most interesting stadiums at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It is the first temporary stadium in World Cup history, yet it still boasts a sizable capacity of 40,000.
Stadium 974 takes its name from the 974 shipping containers that form the bulk of the arena, along with modular steel beams. The number is also the international dialling code for Qatar.
The stadium sits on the waterfront in Ras Abu Aboud, around 10km from the Doha city centre, which formed the basis of its original name, the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium. However, during its launch in November 2021, the name was announced as Stadium 974.
The stadium has been open and active for just under a year, hosting international footballing action during the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.
Stadium 974 will host a total of seven games, including a round of 16 tie.
Although there aren’t as many matches here as other stadiums, the arena will play host to a number of elite teams, such as Portugal, France, Brazil, and Argentina. In fact, all the matches played at Stadium 974 promise to showcase exceptional talent.

20:00 GMT+0100Stadium 974 is ephemeral; it was always intended as a temporary venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Because of the nature of its design, it will be relatively easy to dismantle. The shipping containers and seats will be donated to lesser-developed countries. Stadium 974 will cease to exist, but it will leave its legacy as the first temporary stadium in World Cup history.
