The Lusail Stadium, also called the Lusail Iconic Stadium, is the biggest stadium in Qatar.
With a hulking size capable of holding 80,000 spectators, the Lusail Stadium will feature some of the world’s best footballers and will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.
Located in the city of Lusail, around 20km north of Doha, the stadium was finally completed in the summer of 2022 after five years of construction work.
Given its recent completion, it hasn’t seen much football. However, it was inaugurated on September 9th with a match between Saudi Arabians Al Hilal and the Egyptian team Zamalek, dubbed the Lusail Super Cup.
Lusail Stadium’s design takes inspiration from the handcrafted bowls used by ancient Islamic peoples in the Middle East, just as civilisation was emerging. The arena will feature a cooling system fuelled by solar power, giving the stadium a net zero carbon footprint.
As the largest stadium in Qatar, the Lusail Stadium will play host to ten matches throughout the tournament, including one game at each stage of the knockout phase.
The final will also be held here, which is expected to be a grand culmination of an enthralling tournament. There will certainly be a number of high class matches played here, showcasing the very best footballers in the world.
The best ranked teams who are certain to play here include Argentina, Portugal, and Brazil.
