The Khalifa International Stadium is an iconic sports venue in Qatar, which was initially built for the 1976 Gulf Cup, and has been listed as one of the eight Qatar World Cup 2022 playing venues. After several renovations over the years, the stadium can now host 40,000 spectators and is the standard playing venue of the Qatar national team.
After it’s last update between 2014 and 2017, the stadium now boasts an ultramodern facade with two arches rising to around 120 metres, symbolising continuity and embracing football fans from all over the world. An innovative-design canopy covers 70% of the stadium, and additional climate control and air cooling systems further ensure that the spectators can enjoy the matches in comfort.
An extension of the Khalifa International Stadium houses the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum. While it’s still under development at the moment, it will be celebrating the history and significance of sports in Qatar and beyond.
